Talk shows and stories
Previous Subject   Exit Help   Next Subject

More than 200 hours of pre-recorded talk shows and personal stories are available for listening, reading, and printing from CSN. Talk shows and stories can be selected or searched by anyone, whether registered with CSN or not.

In order to listen to these shows and stories, you must have RealOne Player installed on your computer.

RealOne Player is available for both PC and Macintosh computers. It can be downloaded from www.realnetworks.com, or by clicking the link from our Talk Shows and Stories main page. By clicking the link, you will also find instructions for downloading and installing RealOne Player.

In order to print talk shows and stories, you will need Adobe Acrobat, a free program that can be downloaded from Adobe at www.adobe.com, or by clicking the link from out Talk Shows and Stories main page. By clicking the link, you will also find instructions for downloading and installing Adobe Acrobat. Adobe Acrobat is available for both PC and Macintosh computers.

To listen to or read a CSN talk show or story:

  • On the CSN Home Page, click the Talk Shows & Stories link in the left-hand menu.
  • On the Talk Shows & Stories page, select "Recent Additions," "Featured Stories," "Celebrity Interviews," ‘Featured Talk Shows" or "CareCast Audio Webcasts" to access shows of these types.
  • Lower on the page, you can choose from a list of topics relating to cancer situations--Newly Diagnosed or In Treatment, After Treatment and Beyond, In Recurrence, and Caregiver. Selecting any of these gives you access to a list of shows for that category.
  • After you have selected a list or category, you will see a list of talk shows or personal stories. Click the link to go to a particular show or story.
  • Once you have selected a show, you will see a transcript that you can read on its own or while listening to a recording of the show. Click the RealOne Player icon, and the audio player that you have installed should automatically start and play, just like listening to a radio. You will see a control panel with buttons similar to a stereo, allowing you to stop, start, play, rewind, fast-forward and pause.
  • You may run other programs on your computer while running the audio player; however, in doing so, broadband (cable, dsl, and satellite) connections allows much more flexibility than dial-up connections. The recording will play until it finishes. At that point, you can choose another show or show segment to listen to, or close the program.
  • All shows and stories are divided into segments. Each show has a table of contents dividing the show into segments of the program. You may go directly to a specific segment by clicking the link in the table of contents located at the top of each show. Each segment has its own RealOne Player icon to click for listening.
  • If you wish to print a show segment, click the Printer/Printable Version button. This will launch Adobe Acrobat and provide a version of the transcript that can be printed or otherwise manipulated with Adobe Acrobat. Click the "Back" button on your browser to return to the regular show page.

To search talk shows and stories:

  • You can search Talk Shows and Stories by using the Search option in the top center of any CSN page.
  • Type in what you would like to hear or read about, and you will be taken to a results page. At the bottom, you will have the option of checking only "talk shows and stories" to limit your search to these features on your topic of interest.
  • After choosing and/or typing in a word or words, then clicking search, you will see a response list with all matches found, including direct links to CSN content. Example: If you type in "Tamoxifen," and click "Search," you will be given a list of every segment in which "Tamoxifen" is found.
  • Refer to the Help section titled "Search CSN" for more information on searching the site.
  • If you have further questions about talk shows and stories, please contact: webmaster@acscsn.org.

If you have a question that was not answered in this Help section, please send your question to webmaster@acscsn.org.
